Thriller

The protagonist and main character in the series Divergent is Beatrice(Tris) Prior. As a shy female who belonged to the selfless faction Abnegation her sudden change to Dauntless, where she is separated from her family and has to begin a new life excites the reader especially seeing as she begins her adventure by having to jump on and off a moving train. In our piece we had been influenced to use that sudden change of lifestyle to fit the protagonist theme as it excites the audience and lets them follow through with their story and relate to the protagonist. Tris is also a teenager which aides the audience of that age range to almost relates to the character and build a fan base.
Explores more on factions in Divergent.
Camera
The medium long reaction shot of her running at the exit of the train thrills the audience as we get ready to take this leap of faith with her, the scene ten switches to an ariel shot and we watch anxiously whilst she jumps to the edge of the building, we are able to feel thrilled through the fear that she will not make it as she has not ever been expected to do this .
Sound
The train tracks cracking and beating against the wheels thrill the audience with fear as it suggests that these girls do not have a lot of time to jump off and having to make this new step into the new world or be factionless and be the ghosts of civilization. The music nulls as she chooses to jump and we hold our breath as she leaps.

Mise- en- scene
Both the costumes of the girls show that they are not used to thriller. Tris is wearing gray rags that show that she is used to a more domestic and bland lifestyle, whilst Christina is wearing a white suit presenting her to be more academic and not ready for this world of thrill that is not as black and white as her previous life had been
Editing
The match on action makes the audience feel thrilled as we almost hold our breath to see if she will make it, there are not any fast paced cuts showing a rush of thrill but the slow and almost exhilarating thrill of having to hold on for a few seconds to see if the hero will make it into her new life.

Location
We found that by not having a mundane setting makes things more exciting for the audience to watch as well as adding to the thrill of being in a new world with the character. Which is why we also decided to film in a forest, it was also recommended to us as a location better fit to our project.'The Pit' is bland and presenst how minimal use of mise en scene can have a big impact on how dystopia is presented as with other plots and genre you have to meet a certain criteria in order for it to match that genre however with dystopia you are able to create a whole new universe .

The tattoos and symbols allow the audience too relate to something especially if you give that symbol meaning. The three birds on Tris's collar symbolise the people she left behind in her past. In our piece i wanted there to be something the audience can relate to that also links to the story line seeing as there is a lot of things going on in our piece
Symbols

Numbers- countdowns

Stranger things: When watching the series i came across the way they use numbers to create suspense and tension. The character refers to herself as eleven and to the audience that welcomes a feeling of the unknown and a thriller to want to know what the numbers symbolise and signify. This reminded me of the feeling i wanted to invoke by adding the suspense of numbers into my final coursework project.
The main idea of numbers came for 'In time'. Numbers also create suspense if they are counting down, people hate being faced with the fear that they will die. It will make more sense if the numbers are counting down to the exact second you will die, using numbers is also very simple for mise en scene as it will be easy to create using make up. It creates suspense within the plot and allows the audience to suggest what will happen to the protagonist later within the film, the idea can be established simply within the 2 minutes and gives purpose to the story line as the audience want to know what will happen when the countdown stops thus making it a thriller.

The high angel over the shoulder shot presents the feeling of thrill because we become scared of this unknown entity almost possessing his arm. The electric green of the number changing present the look of technology and math which juxtaposes against the human body which is run on blood and bones. The shot then cuts to the medium long shot of the male to present his evident concern and fear of the numbers, the constant movement of the number scare the audience as there is not stability or defined number thus putting the audience at edge and then creates thrill.

Elijah ( the villain) is portrayed as a normal human being by his modern haircut and clean kept suit however when he enters the scene the door swings open and the sound of the creaking door makes the audience fear his presence as it brings an anxiety of the unknown thus causing thrill. Moreover the dark and worn house makes his entrance even more climactic as the entance to the house floods with light. The house is also a thrilling setting as it appears ancient and out of place in the modern world, the candle lit chandeliers thrown on the floor reinforces the sense of unkown as teh audience questions how such a large and grand house is kept in such a state and unhabited.
The audience is also shown to be thrilled by the fear of monster being alive and able to haunt us during the day. The brightness of the scene makes Elijah seem powerful as he does not fear that someone will see his vampire side or that he will be killing someone in daylight

The Vampire diaires allows the audience to be thrilled as it welcomes a modern villain with a classic twist which creates a more intresting villain. Thriller can also be craeted with some horror elements which The vampire diaries is evidence of and influenced me to create a more interseting villain for my final picece.

The sound of his fangs ejecting from his teeth as well as the rush of blood towards his eyes creates a thrill through the fear we feel for the human victim. The close up of him with blood red eyes, lets the audience feel thrill as we are fearing his appearance after having such normal human face, The inhuman speed in which he changes from a mortal to a immortal creates a fear that some audiences find thrilling. The close up also lets the audience see that his target is her neck and we fear what kind of damage he can do with his sharp vampire teeth .
