Science fiction is usually partnered with Dystopia as the audience are both unaware of the universe that they are entering. There are elements of both dystopian  and Sci- Fi within my piece as the  Location used in our piece shows both elements.

Avatar

Science ficition in Avatar is presented through the use of new technology and the opression of one species or faction of people by a ruling class which is a theme i was influenced by.

As evident in the followimg image this species are diffrent to humans and the audience are welcomed to a new world with this species of people that the humans wish to infultarte, although a majority of this movie is created with CGI that i don't have access to it was intresting to see how micro elements such as camera and Mise en scene were used.

The use of make up was not needed due to the replacement of CGI and although it did not directly influence my piece it made me aware of how important actors proformance was seeing as the actors in Avatar worked without costume and make up but just with there knowledege of the character and the plot line, which is needed since we do not have the resources for big make up and costume ideas

The extreme close up of his face shows us the beautiful detail of this extra-terrestrial being. We are bale to see the difference between us and them, their blue skin, golden yellow eyes and large noses, the audience feel as if we wake up into this new world with him and that we are now apart of this alien world. The blue skin and CGI effects almost become apart of the mise en scene seeng as it portrays the alien and creates the sci-fi element of the movie.

Editing

The fast-paced cuts and lets the audience feel as if the need for survival is strong as she needs to be able to fight quickly without being shot by these men with guns when all she has is arrows. The match on action then let the audience feel as if she is actually very powerful against the might of these modern soldiers

Science fiction also present the idea of surviving similar to Dystopian movies

Camera

The medium long shot of the alien warrior soaring through the air shows strength and her need for survival as she lets out a war cry. The scene then cuts to a long shot o of the many soldiers that she is facing, yet her arrow manages to hit accurately and straight through the soldier. we can also see the unfair advantage that these aliens are facing in order to survive, the long shot gives us a hint of the size and the unfair use of technology against traditional instruments of war fair.

Mise en scene

The difference of the vibrant and natural background to the sci-fi esque spaceship shows how difficult these traditional creatures are gonna find it to defeat these trained battlefield ready soldiers. This is presented through the all black clone like uniform and the steel pattern on the battle aircraft, whilst the female is soaring on a dragon.

Sound

The screech from her battle cry and the impact of the arrow shows how much of a struggle and passion she feels in defending her planet and her family.

The extreme long shot of the TARDIS flying through the space vortex makes the audience feel as if they are apart of the doctor universe before even starting the episode. The long take slowly develops to a close up of the TARDIS entering us into the world of sci-fi with spaceships and galaxies, it makes the titling useful to the audience by submerging us in the world of space.

The mise en scene for this scene is used to confirm the feeling of space, we see the change of colours from blue to red and feel as if we are racing through space, although most is created with CGI the use of the TARDIS spinning off into the unknown places opportunity to add in the titling which all reinforces sci-fi

Its direct influence on my piece was that I had begun to think about what would suggest a dystopian world or a post-apocalyptic world. So I began searching for sirens and news clips of disastrous events and so when editing we collaborated all the sounds effects to make a smooth yet hectic score such as the theme tune of Doctor who .

The theme tune to Doctor who is unusual and due to the show beimg so old the theem song is widely linked to the theme of science fiction. Moreover it influneced me as it made me awar that different sound effects collaborated into one score can suggest alot about what the genre and what the composer is trying to suggest to the audience.

The TARDIS is a whole set portraying sci fi in Doctor who. The sound it makes and the dark atmosphere with small light beams suggesting soemthing magical kept within the spaceship. Sci- fi is almost portrayed as magical with the use of this simple prop although it is a setting for a majority of the series as the box is "bigger on the inside"

This had made me aware of how important setting is and how dependent Science fiction is on Location and as a producer of my final piece it affected me as i had to discuss location with my group various times throughout the project.

The trailer

I was influenced by similar  from the Action and Adventure film Indiana Jones however Gardians of the  Galaxy has a sci- fi Marvel twist as well as being slightly comical so it that made the movie even more influential.

Camera

The slow tilt downwards presents these aines fighting from the smallest creature to the biggest. Sci-fi matches with my idea of being able to survive as these aliens battle against being trapped in prsion. The medium long shot tilt also lest the audience see the two characters bein apart of the same team and we can also see other prisoners battling it out with the wardens, we are ble to see how battles are done in other planets, we find out these aliens are in prison and now we able to see why they deserve to be there

Editing:

The lack of edits presents how lareg of a threat Groot is due to the power of his size, we recognise his power as an alien beast.

Sound:

The sound of the gun fired is similar to most action films however, the noise of Groot screaming as his own war cry suggests him projecting his threat to the attackers, this unusual sounds also makes the audience be ware that this is not a normal fight, this is a fight between aliens.

Mise-en-scene

The CGI that made Groot makes him different from the rest of the aliens and prisoners in the prison. He looks benevolent ans we can see he is apart of team of heroins even though he like the rest of the prisoners are anti-heros, Groot does not wear the yellow uniform of the inmates and so stands out and makes the audience suggest he does not deserve to be there.
